TD-SCDMA Update

- According to XFN-ASIA, China Mobile recently announced its plan to construct 2,059 outdoor base stations and 1,015 indoor distribution systems in order to deliver ubiquitous 3G services in Beijing, in time for the 2008 Olympic Games. The cost for building a base station is estimated at around 860,000 RMB (US$116.2; US$1 = 7.4 RMB), accessory equipment included.

- TD-SCDMA Alliance recently claimed that the total standby time of TD-SCDMA mobile phones with dual-mode capability has reached 80 hours. With stability and power performance ready for commercialization, TD-SCDMA R4 mobile phones are expected to hit the market by year-end 2007, while TD-HSDPA mobile phones are projected to be available in the first quarter of 2008.
